Ideal position for an AmeriCorps*VISTA Leader with interest in volunteer management and emergency response to build the capacity of nonprofit agencies to manage volunteers using a statewide database.

The Maine Commission for Community Service, as part of the VolunteerMaine Partnership, is the lead agency for VolunteerMaine VISTA project, an initiative to increase volunteer management capacity throughout the state. The VolunteerMaine VISTA project has 10AmeriCorps*VISTA members at 10 sites. VolunteerMaine AmeriCorps*VISTA members focus on building community collaborations around volunteer engagement and management; coordinating and providing training and technical assistance; conducting outreach and marketing to promote volunteerism; and increasing the use of VolunteerMaine.org as an effective volunteer management system.

The Maine Commission for Community Service is part of the State of Maine Planning Office. Our mission is to foster community service and volunteerism to meet human and environmental needs in the State of Maine.

VISTA Leader responsibilities include
Supporting the management and administration of VolunteerMaine VISTAs and the VISTA Project:
• Set an example of leadership for members
• Assist in recruitment, mentoring, and coordinating AmeriCorps*VISTA members:
• Assist in recruiting and mentoring AmeriCorps*VISTA members
• Assist in developing, monitoring and reporting project management systems.
• Coordinate orientation and training plans for members and site supervisors.
• Promote information sharing and creating an AmeriCorps*VISTA support network.
• Conduct site visits.
• Ensure positive relations, facilitate idea-sharing, and mediate issues with the community, the project, site supervisors, and AmeriCorps*VISTA members.

Requirements:
Requires leadership training in July or August of 2008 in Philadelphia

Requirements
Successful completion of an AmeriCorps*VISTA term of service
Ability to travel independently to worksite in Augusta and placements sites across Maine
High level of interpersonal communication skills
Responsible and self-motivated
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Self-directed individual needing minimal supervision
Experienced and knowledgeable in use of computers

Preferred Qualifications
Enjoy working independently
Strong meeting management skills
Experience with conflict resolution, training and working collaboratively

Living allowance: $909 per month VISTA living allowance + $200 per month for VISTA Leader
