DVCC is committed to creating an environment in which all people in the community are safe from the threat of violence in their personal relationships. We help individuals and families free themselves from emotional, physical and sexual abuse. Our goal is to prevent and break the cycle of domestic violence through counseling, advocacy, safe housing, education and public awareness.
Description:
DVCC provides 24-hour hotline, safe houses, various children's services, counseling, court advocacy, and education and training for adults and children in the community. All of the services are bi-lingual. A great deal of the services are provided by our volunteers in Stamford and Norwalk.
History:
Prior to 1997, the DVCC was two separate agencies, the Women's Crisis Center in Norwalk, and Domestic Violence Services in Stamford. The Norwalk shelter was opened in 1987, while the Stamford shelter opened in 1988. In 1998 the two organizations legally merged in one, Domestic Violence Crisis Center.
