Our mission is to provide women in need with one-to-one support to help them develop a strong sense of self-worth and to encourage them to create a self-sufficient life for themselves and their families. Mentors are trained and supervised by a clinical social worker. Mentoring partners make a one year commitment to meet weekly.
Description:
WIN is a mentoring program designed to support adult women who are homeless, at risk of becoming homeless, or struggling to create stable and self sufficient lives for themselves and their families. Through weekly one on one meetings, trained volunteer mentors have a unique opportunity to contribute in meaningful ways to a mentee's life. Through friendship support and guidance, a mentor can encourage and strengthen her partner so that she gains in self- reliance and independence. By fostering increased stability and self-confidence, mentees are able to assume long- term responsibility for themselves and their dependents.
History:
WIN was created in 1997 as a support to women in the community who were homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. WIN is a program of the Interfaith Housing Association. IHA helps individuals and families who have temporarily lost their ability to lead productive lives.
