Tutors assist people in learning to speak English as their second language. Hundreds of people in Fairfield County speak little or no English. We will train you to help them learn to speak English. Our students' eagerness to learn English is amazing. We currently have a waiting list of students in need of tutors. Tutoring times are at your convenience. Tutors must speak English clearly and be clearly understood. Training is free;however,there is a $30 deposit fee for materials which will be refunded upon completion of tutor training.

PEOPLE INTERESTED SHOULD ATTEND A VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION SESSION TO LEARN WHAT IS REQUIRED OF A TUTOR.Orientations will be in the mornings, Wednesday, June 18, Westport Library, 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 19, Stratford Library, 10 AM - 11:30 AM, Wednesday, July 16, Trumbull Library, 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM, Thursday, July 17, Fairfield Library, 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM. ESOL Training will be Wednesday mornings, Aug. 6, 13, 20, 27,Sept. 17, )ct. 15, Literacy Volunteers Bridgeport office, 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM.To be a certified tutor you need to attend all training sessions.

Potential tutors need to be high school graduates. You do not need to speak another language, English is the only requirement. You will be expected to meet with your students on a weekly basis.
