Basic Literacy Tutor
Tutors assist native born Americans to read and write English. Many in Fairfield County can only sign their names, and that is the extent of their reading and writing capabilities. Our aim is to help people increase their job skills and gain opportunities to get a better paying position. It is simple to become a Basic Literacy Tutor.Training is free;however, there is a $30 deposit for materials that will be refunded upon completion of tutor training. PEOPLE INTERESTED ARE REQUESTED TO ATTEND A VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION SESSION TO LEARN WHAT IS REQUIRED OF A TUTOR. Orientations will be held in the morning on the following dates: Wednesday, June 18, Westport LIbrary, 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM; Thursday, June 19, Stratford Library, 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM; Wednesday, July 16, Trumbull Library, 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM; Thursday, July 17, Fairfield Main Library, 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM. Basic Literacy Training will be Thursday mornings, 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM, Fairfield Main Library, July 24, 31, Aug. 7, 14, Sept. 18. You need to attend all classes to be certified.
