Our Vision: Create a world without Alzheimer's disease. Our Mission: To eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research, to provide and enhance care and support for all affected, and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.
Description:
Background: The Alzheimer's Association opened its doors in 1980 as one of the founding Chapters of our national association. In the fall of 1999 the Eastern Massachusetts and the Western Massachusetts Chapters joined together to form the Massachusetts Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. In the fall of 2002, the Chapter assumed responsibility for providing services to families and professionals living and working on Cape Cod and the Islands. Throughout the state of Massachusetts, we strive to offer a high level of programs and services. National Association: We are proud to be a strong statewide affiliate of the national Alzheimer's Association, the largest non profit organization dedicated to supporting families and professionals and working to find effective treatments and a cure for Alzheimer's. There are over 80 chapters of the Alzheimer's Association throughout the nation, enabling us to assist families, wherever they live. Programs offered through the Alzheimer's Association include: advocacy, care consultation, early stage programs, family caregiver training, family education programs, 24-hour helpline, multicultural outreach, professionals training, Safe Return and support groups.
History:
Since our incorporation, our Association has grown into one of the largest and most active chapters in the country. We have helped to develop one of the most progressive systems of services and support for Alzheimer patients and their families in the United States. Through our programs, we estimate that last year we reached over 25,000 people in our service area. With an estimated 140,000 people in Massachusetts with Alzheimer's disease or a related disorder, our work has only begun.
