Tutoring Plus of Cambridge aims to support and encourage the academic, personal and social growth to youth in Cambridge through the use of volunteers and existing community resources. Today, Tutoring Plus runs 5 tutoring and mentoring programs for children in Cambridge in grades 4 through 12. Programs are offered free of charge to the families we serve.
Description:
Today, Tutoring Plus serves 130 children through its five tutoring and mentoring programs. All of our programs are offered in the evenings (5:30-7pm), which provide convenient volunteer opportunities for people who work during the day. Volunteers generally tutor for one hour, one evening per week, working with our students. History:
Tutoring Plus was established in 1964 by a group of mothers who sought additional help for their children in school. The mothers approached a student group at MIT, who served as Tutoring Plus' first volunteer tutors and mentors. Over the past 40 years, Tutoring Plus has expanded and changed its programs to reflect the needs of the children it serves, but its main goal of providing academic support to children in need remains as true today as it did in 1964.
