To provide therapeutic treatment foster care for abused, challenging and neglected children up to age 18. We are contracted through the Department of Social Services in MA.
Description:
The Mentor program is a treatment foster care model developed by DFS to address the residential needs of children, adolescents and adults who require a high-level of intensive supervision and structure in order to live in the community. As a viable alternative to residential group care, this program provides for extensive one-on-one therapeutic interaction between trained, supervised mentors and challenging children. A Mentor has many roles; a parent figure, a counselor, a caseworker and often the child's only friend. It is a demanding job that can be rewarding, exciting and provide many opportunities for personal growth. Most important, a mentor can have a powerful positive impact in a child's life.
Mentors are trained and supervised by a professional staff on a continuous basis. Mentors are paid remuneration for foster care services provided.
History:
Dare Family Services, Inc began in 1964 to provide residential alternatives to court involved youths. Today, Dare has 6 regional offices throughout MA and one in CT providing specialized foster care through the Mentor Program. The agency also has a family intervention program, a pregnant and parenting teen program as well as 9 community homes for developmentally delayed disabled adults.
