Our mission here at Generations Clubs is to incorporate the generations to strengthen individuals and communities.

Description:
The Generation Club model typically involves students beginning the program in the sixth grade and continuing during their three years of middle school, although this varies depending on needs identified. Students from the same school or youth program visit a nursing home, assisted living residence or adult day health center as a group. The combined group of youth and elders--typically ten to fifteen of each--engage in interactive, educational programming, with each participant working with an individual partner. Clubs are facilitated by Generations Incorporated AmeriCorps Members and/or Group Leaders. After introducing the activities, Members and Group Leaders work individually with the pairings to make sure they are interacting effectively. The Members also coordinate communication with the service partners involved at each site.

History:
Since 1991, Generations Incorporated has grown from a one-desk, one staff, four site operation run by volunteer college-age group leaders, to an organization with a downtown office, several more staff, AmeriCorps members, AmeriCorps*VISTAs, stipended senior citizen volunteers and programming worthy of demonstrational at national conferences and notice on National Public Radio, NBC Nightly News and several local newspapers. Generations Incorporated has partnerships with over 50 schools, after-school programs, nursing homes, assisted-living facilities, adult day-care centers, and independent elderly residences. Generations Incorporated's innovative programming impacts over 1,000 young people and older adults in more than 30 locations every week and will continue to bring together the generations for many years to come.
