The Arts & Business Council promotes the mutuality of arts and business partnerships, strengthening the two sectors through advocacy and programs that serve the fullest diversity of individuals, organizations and communities.

Description:
The Arts & Business Council of Greater Boston (A&BC/Boston) links the strengths of arts and business, promoting community growth and vitality through the arts. It builds partnerships which enhance the management capacity of arts organizations while strengthening the business sector by expanding the consulting, management, and leadership capabilities of individuals through effective volunteerism. A&BC/ Boston is one of 17 U.S. affiliates, which collectively provide the largest national volunteer network serving the cultural community.

A&BC/Boston serves business and the arts through the following programs:

(1) Business Volunteers for the Arts (BVA): provide pro bono management consulting services to area non-profit art groups.

(2) The Board Center for the Arts: the region’s leading board training and placement resource for companies and arts and cultural organizations consists of three programs, Business On Board which trains and places business executives on arts boards; Board Development Program which instructs arts organizations on managing and recruiting for their board; and a Board Development Advanced Training for arts groups.

(3) National arts Marketing Project (NAMP): workshops designed to help arts organizations devise and implement marketing strategies to build attendance, diversify audiences and increase earned revenue.

(4) MetLife Foundation National Arts Forums: presents topics of interest to business and the arts.

History:
The Arts & Business Council of Greater Boston was re-established in 2000.

The flagship program Business Volunteers for the Arts (BVA) program, was launched in 1975 in New York City. BVA's proven success in New York City led to replication of the program in other cities through an affiliate network. The first affiliate was launched in 1979 and 15 affiliates are now operating in communities throughout the nation.
