The purpose of the North County Rape Crisis and Child Protecton Center is to reduce the incidence of and vulnerability to sexual assault and child abuse by providing education and prevention skills to community children and adults, and to alleviate the trauma experienced by survivors of these crimes by providing direct services.
Description:
The Center provides intervention services to survivors of sexual assault and child abuse through the operation of two-24 hour hotlines. Services provided include accompaniment for forensic medical examinations accomplished through the collaboration of the Sexual Assault Response Team (SART), accompaniment and support services during law enforcement interviews, and court proceedings. Individual counseling is available as well as group counseling in both Lompoc and Santa Maria. Education services are also provided in Lompoc and Santa Maria through community outreach programs on a variety of topics ranging from sexual harassment awareness and prevention; sexual assault prevention; child abuse prevention; self-defense/personal safety; Mandated Reporter Training; Good Touch/Bad Touch Puppet Shows; and the school-based ChildSAFE Program.
History:
The agency was started in 1974. The main administrative office is located in Lompoc and the branch office is located in Santa Maria.
