Founded in 1970, Peoples' Self-Help Housing (PSHH) provides affordable housing and programs leading to self-sufficiency for low-income families, seniors and persons with disabilities along California's Central Coast.
Description:
The Education Enhancement Program (EEP), an after school education program currently operating at six sites in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties, runs daily year-round and is headed by bilingual, credentialed educators at each site. Many of our residents are monolingual Spanish-speakers, and their children are usually behind in school. Our goal is to improve their study skills, increase their self-esteem, improve graduation rates and encourage them to go to college. We currently offer the program at five of our housing sites in Santa Barbara County; two sites are in Carpinteria, and one is near Santa Barbara City College, one is in Santa Maria and one is in Guadalupe. The program is offered in the afternoons from 2:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. Monday through Friday.
