Our mission is to provide programs and services that preserve and enrich the quality of life for frail adults and to provide respite, support and education for their caregivers.
Description:
For families and caregivers, we offer individual counseling and support groups, appropriate referral to other services or agencies, and relief time away from the responsibilities and stresses of care giving. For our elderly participants,we offer recreation, education, transportation services, nutritious food, the companionship of other members. More importantly, the center is a place where our seniors are valued and given much warmth, humor and affection. Our program is designed to bring out the best in our seniors and to encourage them to enjoy each day, in spite of their limitations.
History:
The Friendship Center was founded by the Community Action Commission as a day care pilot project for frail dependent seniors in a small church- The Friendship Baptist Church (hence our name). As our program grew, the All Saints-by-the-Sea Church offered us a larger space in 1979. The program increased its services to 35 seniors a day and extended its program hours in 1992. In 1997 we completed construction of our remodeled Center and can now serve 55 people a day. We are licensed by Community Care as an Adult Day Care Center-Social model.
