American Support for Afghanistan is a non-sectarian, non-governmental and strictly apolitical non-profit organization dedicated to the restoration and continuing development of Afghanistan. Our mission is to contribute to the development of Afghanistan through direct funding and providing material goods for health care and educational services.
Description:
ASA aims to empower and encourage Afghan citizens to participate in the rebuilding of their own communities by providing resources to the immediate concerns of health care services, educational services, housing, orphanages, and refugees. We seek to address the most pressing needs in order to establish greater security and economic potential on a community level.
The twenty-three years of war in Afghanistan, and the current three-year drought, has left multitudes of structures destroyed and thousands of people without homes or access to basic services.
History:
ASA was started in 2002 by Homaira Zahir, a native of Afghanistan, in Santa Barbara. In August of 2003, Zahir successfully delivered $10,000 worth of educational and medical supplies to an Afghan school and hospital.
