Since 1989, Global Partners for Development has worked in the East African countries of Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, supporting projects that have included development of clean water sources, child nutrition, medical and health care, primary and vocational education, and women's economic self-reliance. We work for the end of persistence of hunger throughout the world especially as it affects the survival and development of children. As an international, non-profit, non-governmental organization, Global Partners raises funds to provide resources and skills for basic survival, promoting self-sufficiency and education in developing countries. We offer travel opportunities that foster committed action and personal involvement, ennobling participants and host communities alike with a firsthand experience of their common bond and destiny.

Description:
Kelsey Short, Santa Barbara High School, is organizing a 5k Walk/Run at Montecito Union School on January 26 at 8:30 a.m. "After volunteering in Kenya this last summer I was inspired to alter the conditions of as many as possible and I believe the [best] method of doing this is through education. This event will raise funds for deserving girls in East Africa to go to secondary school (which can cost around $500/yr even though the [average] per capita income is only around $300/yr!). 100% of the proceeds go to the highly rated non-profit Global Partners for Development."
