Our Vision: Maximize the health status of all residents of Santa Barbara County
Our Mission: Improve Access to Health Care; Improve the Quality of Health Care and; Achieve a Healthy Community
Our Goal: Develop programs to provide affordable comprehensive health care for the underserved, uninsured, and underinsured in Santa Barbara County
Description:
Santa Barbara County has the highest rate of uninsured children in California - 17,000 and rising!
Almost 20% of our County's children, age 17 and younger, have working parents who cannot afford the increasing cost of dependent healthcare, or do not have health insurance available through their employer. And, because these parents are working, their families do not qualify for any government programs such as Medi-Cal or Healthy Families. These uninsured children - your neighbors, your children's classmates, your employee's families - live sicker and die younger.
To ensure that all children in this County have access to basic healthcare services, a county-wide coalition of concerned citizens, business leaders, and public agencies, launched a new comprehensive health insurance program on December 1st, 2005 called "Healthy Kids Santa Barbara" . The total cost for one year of care is $1305.24 per child and is funded by affordable monthly premiums, grants, and private donations.
