To provide services which will support the dignity and independence of elders by helping them maximize their quality of life; live safely and in good health; and, prevent premature institutionalization.

Description:
Old Colony Elderly Services' goals include:

*Assuring the quality and appropriateness of services provided;
*Maintaining a skilled, dedicated and qualified professional staff;
*Ensuring that the diverse mix of elders throughout its service area will be properly informed about available services and programs; and
*Maximizing the number of elders serviced.

Old Colony Elderly Services provides such services as counseling, case management, and information and referral. Other programs include:

*Nutrition
*Elder at Risk
*Adult Family Care
*Money Management
*Protective Services
*Family Caregiver Support Program
*Personal Care Attendant

Programs seeking volunteers include:

*The Massachusetts Money Management Program is designed to help vulnerable, low-income elders. The program seeks to protect elders who may be at risk of losing their independence due to their inability to pay basic rent, food and utility bills. Volunteers visit elders in their homes at least monthly and assist seniors by establishing budgets; organizing mail; writing checks; and, balancing checkbooks.


History:
Old Colony Elderly Services was incorporated in 1974 and is one of 27 private, non-profit Service Access Points in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. OCES is governed by a Board of Directors and has a designated service area of 23 communities in southeastern Massachusetts.
