 At Giving Children Hope, we are organizing our first annual walk-a-thon. It will be held in Buena Park, beginning at the First Congregational Church, located on Beach Blvd. We have a need for 100 volunteers to do miscellaneous jobs like hand out water to walkers, register the walkers, set up and tear down equipment, and walk around and sell raffle tickets. We will also have food vendors, and live music.
Our goal is to have 1000 registered walkers by April 4th. This is a 5k walk to be held on Saturday, May 17th, 2008.
The purpose of the Walking with Hope Walk-a-thon is to raise $50,000 for our "We've Got Your Back" program. This is a program to fill back packs with dry and canned nutritional foods, which are picked up by homeless school children every Friday. Over 11,000 children in Orange County are identified as homeless by the department of education. This is an overwhelming number, unknown to most Orange County residents.
Currently 65 children are a part of the "We've Got Your Back" program. Our goal is to expand the program to 300 children this year.
