We have several Mentoring Programs that offer a variety of volunteer opportunities; each one varies in its time commitment and location. The following gives a brief description of each program: “Two-by-Two” and “Two-for-You” Mentors: This is a new model of mentoring in which matches are made between two adults and two children or one adult and two children. Volunteer pairs may be couples, relatives, friends, or co-workers. This arrangement benefits, supports, and assures the safety of both our volunteers and the foster children we serve. Our Mentors commit to minimum of 10 hours per month for one year. Academic Mentors: Our Academic Mentoring Program places you with a foster child in need of academic motivation and assistance; we have children of all ages who need help in all subject areas. You will travel to the foster home to provide academic support; use your knowledge and skills to help a child succeed in school and in life. Our Academic Mentors commit to a minimum of one hour per week for six months, with the possibility of moving into a one on one community based match after six months. "FunDay" Events: Each month the Mentoring Division plans a ‘FunDay’ event that directly serves the Foster Youth of Orange County; the activities vary from a trip to the aquarium, to a carnival, or an art day. Our goal is to provide a safe and FUN place for our children to be children, and also to give the foster parents a much needed day off. You may volunteer for as many or as little FunDays as you like, it’s up to you! All of our volunteer opportunities require an application and screening process to ensure the safety of our children. Training and on-going support is provided for all of our mentors. Please let us know if you have any questions, and to schedule an interview to further discuss our opportunities. Again, thank you for you interest and we look forward to working with you to help build strong kids, strong families, and strong communities.
