Provide Medicare beneficiaries with counseling and advocacy assistance. Responsibilities can include telephone or by appointment at assigned locations. Counseling consists of informational services to Medicare beneficiaries regarding Medicare, supplemental insurance, long-term care insurance and related issues.
Prospective volunteers will participate in a 28 hour initial classroom training as well as complete a 100 question open book test. Following the training, volunteers will participate in a 15 hour internship with an experienced counselor. Additional continuing education training is required annually both to maintain proficiency as a HICAP Counselor and for registration renewal. Background check is also required.
