NAMI's is a grassroots, non-profit organization, whose mission is to improve the lives of individuals affected by mental illness through education, support research and education. NAMI is a United Way agency.

History:
NAMI Southeast Minnesota was originally known as RAAMI (Rochester Area Alliance for the Mentally Ill), in 2008 the name changed from NAMI Olmsted County to NAMI Southeast Minnesota. NAMI Southeast Minnesota began in 1986 with four family members in Rochester. NAMI is largely a volunteer organization with a board of directors and members who volunteer time to the programs and activities of the organization. NAMI Southeast Minnesota is an affiliate of the Minnesota and National NAMI organizations. NAMI is a grassroots, family and consumer self-help, support, education, advocacy organization dedicated to improving the lives of people with severe mental illnesses. Mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia, clinical depression and bipolar disorder, and anxiety disorders, can profoundly disrupt a person's ability to think, feel and relate to their environment and to others. NAMI also has a history of financially supporting research in serious mental illnesses.
