Description:
Pine Island Area Home Services is a non-profit community agency that draws upon the volunteer services to the older adults of the community to help them remain independent in their homes. Neighborhood volunteers and caring health professionals provide a variety of services that help elders remain safe and independent while enhancing the aspect of truly "living". Some examples of the services offered are: Assistance with grocery shopping, transportation, friendly visiting, light housekeeping, chores, and respite care. Some other areas our agency oversees are coordinating drivers for Home Delivered Meal and Goodhue County Transportation program, and assisting with the Nutrition Assistance Program (NAPS) distribution site for seniors. A variety of educational programs are presented to assist people in making changes and choices needed to remain at home.

History:
Pine Island Area Home Services opened its doors October of 2002. A few people from Pine Island saw that the needs of their elderly neighbors were not being met. They got together and started Pine Island Area Home Services. We are now meeting the needs of the elderly in Pine Island with the help of volunteers. We serve people 65 and older. There are no charges for our services. The program is a Living at Home Block Nurse Program. Elderberry Institute is the model program which promotes neighbors helping neighbors. The program is funded though grants, fundraisers, and community supported donations.
