The mission of RideAbility is to provide family-focused therapeutic and recreational equine-related activities for persons with disabilities, their siblings, and their peers (in a non-discriminating program: enhancing physical, emotional, and mental health for the participants through the services of horses).
Description:
RideAbility serves children and adults with disabilities and their families. Over 100 students, in a seven-county area of southeastern Minnesota are served each year. There are at least four class sessions held per year. Adult sessions are offered in the spring and fall. Youth classes (4 years-21 years) are offered in June and July. Classes are held on Monday and Tuesday nights, with 2-3 class sessions held each night.
History:
RideAbility was started in 1997 as a 4-H project. The original volunteers were members of the 4-H group Roscoe's Rockets. In June of 1997, the program started with three children, and by the end of the summer there were eight children in the program. In 1999 RideAbility added adult classes. In 2000, RideAbility became a non-profit organization.
