Junior Achievement of Rochester brings volunteer role models from the community into the K-12 classrooms to help young people understand business and economics, value education and stay in school. Our mission is to educate and inspire young people to value free enterprise, understand business and economics in order to improve the quality of their lives
Description:
Junior Achievement (JA) is designed to provide young people with practical economic education and life-skills to prepare them for the workforce they will someday enter. JA's unique, proven delivery system brings volunteers from the community face-to-face with students during regular school hours. JA serves ALL students regardless of ability, school, social factors, etc., and all programs are provided free of charge. Everyone--students, teachers and community members--benefits from the positive volunteer role models who are trained by JA staff. JA strives to find diverse volunteers within the community to match the diversity of the student population.
History:
Junior Achievement of Rochester was founded in 1962 by four Rochester businesspeople interested in helping students learn about career opportunities and business practices. Today, Junior Achievement is delivered in nearly 150 Rochester classrooms serving approximately 3,000 youth. Students learn about careers, community, economics and life-skills through sequential, integrated, K-12 grade programs that teach skills such as critical thinking, and problem solving.

Junior Achievement of Rochester MN. I have served as a volunteer in the classroom for many years, delivering JA's programs. I have also served on the JA Board. The experience with students is always fun & rewarding, and it has been a great opportunity to be involved in the schools in our community. The professionally developed lesson plans make it easy to deliver a high-quality experience to the students. posted by wjnee on August 24, 2005 |
