Supporting individuals with developmental disabilities as active community participants.
Description:
Background Description: PossAbilities of Southern Minnesota, Inc. is a non-profit United Way agency serving individuals with developmental disabilities. We provide day services to 180 adults in Olmsted County. We offer person-centered programming in the areas of Life Enrichment, Supported Employment, Senior Services and Youth Recreation at six locations in Rochester. Our goal at PossAbilities is to assist people with disabilities to be active members of the community. The agency has five primary service components. SUPPORTED EMPLOYMENT SERVICES focuses on obtaining and maintaining jobs in the community for those individuals who want to develop meaningful careers. Career planning, job development, and job coaching are integrated to help the individual decide their career. This program provides a wide variety of sheltered employment experiences, community based employment experiences and socialization opportunities. SENIOR SERVICES supports individuals who have retired from the work force. The program centralizes on the needs and desires of the person, providing very flexible supports and services, and fostering personal associations between seniors with developmental disabilities and those without. LIFE ENRICHMENT SERVICES help those individuals with the most severe developmental disabilities to have fulfilling lives that include friendships, being connected to the community, and giving back to the community. YOUTH RECREATION PROGRAM provides teens with disabilities the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of recreational activities at the Rochester Area Family Y and throughout the community. This program offers opportunities after school and throughout the summer months.
