The Odyssey Mission is "To Serve All People During the End of Life's Journey".

Hospice believes death to be a natural part of the life cycle and neither hastens nor postpones death. Our goal is to offer care which keeps the patient comfortable and living fully for as long as possible, allowing for them to die with dignity and control. We serve them and their families through an interdisciplinary team which includes volunteers.

Description:
Odyssey provides palliative care to terminally ill patients, supportive services to patients and their families 24 hours a day in both home and facility settings. Physical, social, emotional and spiritual care are provided by a medically directed interdisciplinary team consisting of patient/family, professionals and volunteers.

Volunteers are an important part of the hospice care team, in fact so much so that the law under the provision of Medicare requires volunteer service hours for all approved hospices. Odyssey wants to employ volunteer help even beyond the statutes of the law; such care provides a real and caring support for the patients in hospice, and to their families.

As a hospice volunteer, you may do many things for patients and families, as well as for the overall work of the hospice team of physicians, nurses, home health aides, chaplains and social workers. Volunteers may be creative in their ability to be a friend and helper to our patients, and we will work together to adapt your service in a way that both meets the needs of the patients, their families, and your schedule. There are also opportunities to assist in the office, for example, as a member of our bereavement team if you prefer.

History:
Odyssey has hospices in 118 locations throughout the United States. Our first office opened in 1996, and the Omaha office was established in 2002. We serve the Omaha/Council Bluffs metropolitan area as well as Fremont, Ashland, Lincoln NE and Glenwood, Malvern, and Sidney IA.
