The Omaha EITC Coalition promotes through the claiming of tax credits quality Volunteer Tax Return Preparation for low-income Omahans with a goal of providing educational tools and community resources for family asset development.

What is Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)?
Earned Income Tax Credit are refundable tax credits for working households earning less than $39,783 per year with credits up to $4,716. The amount to which people are eligible varies by household income and family size.

Congress originally approved the tax credit legislation in 1975 in part to offset the burden of social security taxes and to provide an incentive to work. When the EITC exceeds the amount of taxes owed, it results in a tax refund to those who claim and qualify for the credit.

What can I do to help?
If you wish to volunteer there are two options:

1. Site Support Volunteer (interpreter, administrative support, information assistant, or greeter)
2. Tax Preparer (Under the supervision of trained Site Managers, you will prepare federal and state income tax returns for the current year)
   
   

Time commitments in 3 hour segments are required.

I have no experience completing tax returns; can I still help out?
Yes, in one of two ways. You can serve as an Admin volunteer and help people with in-take, education and the flow through the tax site. Or, we will train you to be a certified tax preparer to help out. New inexperienced volunteers participate in a free tax law/tax software training course (offered at a variety of times) after Thanksgiving and ending before our sites open in late January.
