Lutheran Family Services'(LFS) mission is to express God's love for all people by providing quality human care services that build and strengthen individual, family, and community life.
Whether it is for one hour a year or one hour a day, LFS would love to have you join its family and help to serve the people of Nebraska.
Description:
Lutheran Family Services (LFS) provides many services including counseling services, refugee resettlement & immigration services, and services for children including respite care, adoption and foster care. In 2003 LFS began offering international adoption. Many of their services are provided on a sliding scale fee.
Strong Urban Neighborhoods (SUN) offers community outreach to the Leavenworth neighborhood in Omaha and has many opportunities for volunteering including teaching assistants for ESL & GED classes, computer training class assistants and baby sitters.
History:
For over 100 years, LFS has been serving the children and families of Nebraska. What began as orphanages in Fremont and Omaha has become a statewide outpouring of God's love through more than 20 programs and over 200 staff members. As the needs of Nebraskans have changed over the years, so have LFS programs. We still provide homes for children, but now those children are served through adoption and foster care services. Stresses have increased and many people find themselves unable to cope alone. Our counseling, substance abuse treatment, and gambling addiction programs provide hope.
