Westside Middle School Reading Mentoring (STAR Program)

STAR, which stands for Students Turning into Active Readers, is a one-to-one mentoring program that assists students in improving their reading skills. Our goal is to assist students in reaching their academic potential by providing them with the skills and support necessary to become academically successful. Our mentors are trained to work with students on their reading and other academic skills. The time commitment is only 1 hour per week. This program operates within the Westside Middle School Reading Department.

History:
Reading mentoring has operated within Westside Middle School since January 1999. We have worked with over 500 students in helping them increase their reading proficiency.
