The Open Door Mission & Lydia House is a Gospel Rescue Mission providing basic needs and life-changing programs for the homeless and needy in an atmosphere reflecting the life and teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ. Today, the Open Door Mission provides emergency shelter, long-term programs, food and clothing to the needy, and opportunities for rehabilitation to men, women and children. The Mission provides for families as well as homeless men.
History:
The Open Door Mission was founded in 1954 as a Gospel Rescue Mission whose emphasis centered on providing emergency shelter, food and spiritual help. The Open Door Mission was located in downtown Omaha until the mid- to late eighties, when it moved out near Epply Airfield. The Lydia House, a women's shelter, was opened in 1990.
