SeniorHelp provides various services to individuals over 60 that help them maintain their independence and ability to stay in their homes for as long as they are able.
Description:
The SeniorHelp Program of the Eastern Nebraska Office on Aging (ENOA) enrolls volunteers of all ages who donate their time and abilities, assisting older individuals throughout our community in remaining independent and in their own homes for as long as possible. Volunteers fill requests of all types, including companionship/personal visitor, escort/transportation, home maintenance, household/personal assistance, painting, respite (sitting with an elderly person while caregiver runs errands etc.), snow removal, telephone reassurance, telephone visiting and yard care, as well as one-time requests and projects. SeniorHelp also enrolls volunteers to help deliver Meals on Wheels, work in Senior Centers and coordinates groups of volunteers to assist with larger-scale projects. Volunteers may also assist with such emergency situations as the October snow storm, or the August 99 flood etc., or the 2005 summer storm that downed so many trees. Commitment is very flexible - volunteers can serve as little or as much as they choose and there are many different requests that offer a wide variety of choices.
History:
The Eastern Nebraska Office on Aging (ENOA )is one of 670 Area Agencies on Aging created by Congress under the Older American's Act. ENOA provides comprehensive services that help older adults stay in their homes and improve their quality of life. The SeniorHelp Volunteer Resource Program is sponsored by ENOA and began as a "service/credit" program called "Time-Dollar." It has evolved into a program that helps anyone over age 60 with a variety of things without the use of service credits.
