To Advocate for and aid in the physical, educational, financial and social well-being of migrant and seasonal farmworkers, minorities and other disadvantaged persons in the State of Nebraska through the delivery of community-based programming.
Description:
NAF Multicultural Human Development Corporation operates eight offices in Nebraska. The administrative office is located in North Platte. Other offices are located in Scottsbluff, Grand Island, Lexington, Columbus, Lincoln, Omaha and South Sioux City. NAF is a non-profit organization seeking to fulfill its mission through programs which serve each office's community. Some of these programs include, but are not limited to, Child Health Care, HIV education and prevention, immunization, ABE/ESL/GED education, NFJP (National Farmworker Job Program), Parenting and the Near Homeless Assistance Program. During the past six years NAF's Omaha office has become increasingly involved in the Adult Basic Education program funded by the Nebraska Department of Education. There has been an increasing need and demand for English as a Second Language classes; the student population has grown each year and now is at 200 students each scholastic year. This is where the opportunity for volunteering services lies.
History:
NAF was founded in 1979 and set up its administrative offices in the western Nebraska area. Its founding mission was to aid migrant and seasonal farmworkers. Through the years it has developed programs which reach out to multicultural populations. In the Spring of 1999 NAF relocated its Omaha office to the heart of South Omaha on 24th and "M" Street. This has given NAF more visibility in the community and aided in the increase of clients in all programs, particularly the ABE/ESL program.
