Description:
Catholic Charities' Programs are grouped under the following five categories: Counseling:
Counseling at Catholic Charities is an opportunity to step back with a professional staff person and view problems more clearly. An experienced counselor can provide the direction needed to work through the disturbing feelings that often surround problems and cloud solutions. Counseling can be painful, but it also can be a time of renewal and growth. Addiction Recovery Services:
Catholic Charities' addictions recovery program operates from the philosophy of addictions as a disease and follows the McAullife's Essentials of Addictions Recovery and the Twelve Steps of AA. The agency offers a continuum of services ranging from initial addiction evaluation to intensive long-term treatment to aftercare groups. Treatment is provided at the Omaha Campus for Hope, the state's premier provider of chemical dependency services. Domestic Violence Services:
Catholic Charities offers protection, care and counseling for battered women and their children. Most abused women fell isolated, guilty and ashamed. Through its domestic violence programs, Catholic Charities assists women in regaining self-esteem and renewing personal values often lost as a result of degrading physical and psychological abuse. In violent families, children are often hurt and always are affected in significant ways. Many fail to develop emotionally, physically and socially. Children who live with abusive adults are also more likely to become abusive adults who will continue the cycle of violence. Catholic Charities offers assistance to mothers and their children by providing counseling and parenting classes.
Children's Services:
The Chidren's Services Staff at Catholic Charities provides three services: 1) Counseling and assistance to pregnant women, birth fathers, and families, helping them make an informed decision and plan for the future of their child; 2) Counseling, education and ongoing service to couples exploring adoption as an option for expanding their families; 3) Counseling, education and service to adult adoptees who wish to receive medical and social information, as well as search and intermediary services to adoptees and birth parents who are seeking reunion. Community Services:
The Community Services programs of Catholic Chariites take place at two sites: St. Martin de Porres Center and the Juan Diego Center. The services at these sites are designed to bring out the best in people - the best in the people who need help and the best in the people who can help. St. Martin de Porres Center and the Juan Diego Center work with both groups in its efforts to address problems of poverty and social justice in our community.
