To make our community a safer place to live.
Description:
M-2 Job Therapy is a private non-profit agency that works at community safety by reducing recidivism. It administers two programs to assist our offender/ex-offender clients. The M-2 Prison Visitation Program matches volunteers from the community with prison inmates for the purposes of friendship and visitation. The volunteers go into the prison as a group and visit once a month with their matched inmate. The Job Counseling and Placement for Ex-offenders Program assists ex-offenders in finding employment. Both program have been shown to reduce recidivism by about 50%.
History:
40 years ago a small group of men started going into Washington State Reformatory in Monroe to visit inmates who had no other visitors. The M-2 (Match-Two) Prison Visitation Program was founded to coordinate the matching of community volunteers with prison inmates for the purposes of friendship and visitation. As inmates in the program began to be released it was apparent that there was no one to help them with the peculiar needs of ex-offenders looking for work and the Job Counseling and Placement for Ex-offenders Program was added and the name changed to M-2 Job Therapy.
