Queens Pride House was established as a center to provide comprehensive advocacy for services for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender residents of Queens and to provide a space for social and cultural events.
Description:
Queens Pride House provides a drop in store front center with staff who are available to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons with health, social service and legal referrals and provides a library, lounge, and internet accessible computer terminals. Queens Pride House conducts educational forums and does educational outreach on health issues that affect the community. In partnership with GMHC Legal Services we provide access to free legal service to Queens residents who are HIV positive. In partnership with CUNY School of Law we have a legal program that offers low cost civil legal services. A new program provides job skills development starting with computer skills classes. We sponsor or conduct various social and cultural events throughout the year. At the beginning of every June we conduct a Queer Cultural Festival with Theatre, Art and Poetry. The center is open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from afternoon till evening.
