The Friends of Boerner Botanical Gardens are dedicated to preserving and promoting Boerner Botanical Gardens and Arboretum as an outstanding regional resource and vital regional asset. By providing quality educational programs, the Friends stimulate interest in, appreciation for and understanding of horticulture and gardening.
Description:
Friends of Boerner Botanical Gardens volunteers are the key role in providing educational programs. The gardens serve as a "living museum" of plants, offering over 1,700 acres of garden, arboretum and park space. A place of beauty and serenity the gardens host over 275,000 visitors per year. The gardens also serve as an outdoor classroom appealing to horticultural and botanical interest groups and is a valuable tourism resource to Wisconsin. Consider sharing your joy of gardening with children as a Children's Garden Guide. All you need is enthusiasm for gardening and plant science, and a willingness to work in an outdoor classroom. Guides are needed for spring, summer and fall programs. Training is provided. If you're proud of having a bonanical garden in your backyard, consider being a Garden Docent. You'll lead small groups of visitors through the Gardens while sharing information about the rich history of how the Gardens were built and about the plant collections. Resource materials and training include shadowing an experienced Garden Docent. Year round opportunities for volunteers to share time and talents with adult and children programs, in the Gift Shop,as Greeters, Receptionist, Administrative, and Special Events(like the Festival of Roses).
