Position title: Board member with strong background in financial management or public relations and marketing
Description: The Vietnamese Friendship Association is searching for board candidates who are concrete thinkers who can work to build structures and help in the planning process. Our organization has been around for three decades, but has not been active. Now that there is a strong need for services for the Vietnamese community, we are organizing to become a viable organization. We need those who have the skills and experience to help establish systems, especially where it concerns financial management, strategic planning, branding, and fundraising. Our priority right now is to develop a strong accounting system using Quickbooks. We are also looking to more non-Vietnamese as well as female board members, although all qualified candidates are welcome. Vietnamese language is helpful, but not necessary.
Type of board position: Board of Directors
The process for selecting or nominating members: Meeting with one or more current board member and executive director. If this seems a good match, submit resume and cover letter. Attend a board meeting to see if dynamics are right. The member can be voted on during that board meeting if both sides feel it is the right match. Candidates may decide to join a committee first they s/he so wishes.
The organization provides a formal orientation to new members: Yes
Additional information about this position: VFA's board has not been very active these past few years. Recently, however, there has been a surge as older board members' terms expired and newer members joined, bringing energy to the board that has not been felt in a long time. We are excited to lead the charge to build a strong organization that serves the Vietnamese community.
