Looking for individuals interested in volunteering once a month for stewardship activities at Highland Recreation Area.

You will be working with State Park Stewardship Steward Laurel Malvitz in helping to restore native fens, tallgrass prairies, lakeplain prairies, and oak savannas on state park lands and recreation areas.

Sunday, April 27, 2008
Highland Recreation Area, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Join us in removing garlic mustard (Alliaria petiolata) that threatens to take over the unique woodlands in Highland Recreation Area. Meet at the bike trailhead parking lot on the north side of Livingston Road between Duck Lake and Waterbury Roads. Please arrive on time as we will share rides and caravan to a small parking area on Beaumont Road.

Highland Recreation Area, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Want to help protect woodlands at Highland Recreation Area? Help us remove garlic mustard (Alliaria petiolata) that threatens to take over these unique woods. Meet at the bike trailhead parking lot on the north side of Livingston Road between Duck Lake and Waterbury Roads. Please arrive on time as we will share rides and caravan to a small parking area on Beaumont Road. ***Bring a lunch or snack and join us for a special hour-long wildflower hike at the end of the workday. Please bring a plant field guide if you have one.

Saturday, June 7, 2008
Highland Recreation Area, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Plant native wildflowers. Be a part of the prairie and barrens restoration at the Silo Field Trial Area. Meet at the parking lot off Livingston Road, between Pettibone Lake and Beaumont Roads

These workday activities are not suitable for children 12 or under. An adult must accompany children between the ages of 13 to 16 for these volunteer activities.
