![]() Breaking Free is a program that works with mothers and children who are looking for assistance in breaking the cycle of domestic violence and moving forward with their lives. The Breaking Free Children's Program works to help these vulnerable children cope with their experiences. Using a pre-approved curriculum and under the guidance of Family Service staff, volunteers lead group discussions with children of various ages about what domestic violence is and how to cope with it in their lives. The group meets for three hours, one night per week for ten weeks at a confidential location. Training is provided. We are looking for caring and sensitive individuals who are comfortable working with children who have experienced trauma or domestic violence and who can work with diverse populations. Volunteers must be willing to commit three hours a week for 10 weeks, June 9 through August 11, 2008. The group meets on Mondays from 5:30 -8:30 p.m. Due to the sensitive nature of the opportunity, volunteers will be screened and must pass criminal and child abuse background checks.
