Addison Behavioral Care, inc., formerly Addison Terrace Learning Center of Pittsburgh, Inc., is a community agency which strives to provide the highest quality behavioral health services with a specialty in substance abuse prevention, intervention and treatment.

Description:
We deliver our services in culturally sensitive ways and improve the community in collaboration with individuals, groups and institutions within Allegheny and surrounding counties. We are located in the Hill District public housing community within the Bedford Dwellings community and in East Liberty on the corner of Highland and Broad Street Mall. Since 1982 we have grown from a program that only provided after school programs and contracted with the Public Schools to a multi-faceted agency with contracts providing drug and alcohol treatment and other services. We are a contractual provider with Allegheny County Children Youth and Family, have been a United Way partner agency for over 15 years, have provided contracted services in the Pittsburgh Public schools since our beginning, and have had a contractual agreement with Allegheny County's Office of Community services for many years to provide family services in the communities we are in.

History:
Addison Behavioral Care, Inc. (ABC) began in 1982 as Addison Terrace Learning Center from a need to provide youth based drug/alcohol prevention and intervention services within the largest public housing community in the area namely, the Hill District. We began in Elmore Square (Addison Terrace) and quickly grew to providing services in all of the City of Pittsburgh High Schools and many Middle and Elementary schools as well. We were recognized with an official accommodation in 1993 by the National Office of Drug Policy for our youth programs and again our youth programs received national recognition in 2003 by Pride Youth Programs Inc. One of our family centered programs, respite, received recognition by the Pennsylvania Children's Trust Fund as one of the best respite care programs in the nation and a local foundation funded a three year replication project for this program ending in 2001. Our philosophy has always been to work to empower individuals even before the term was popular and we continue to do so with clients as well as staff, volunteers and the many friends and collaborators we have built relationships with over the years.
