Bethlehem Haven provides emergency overnight shelter and residential recovery programs for homeless women and leads a collaborative community effort to reduce homelessness among both men and women in the greater Pittsburgh area by addressing their medical, psychiatric, educational, legal and social needs.

Description:
Bethlehem Haven provides shelter for homeless women through three residential programs. There are 28 beds in the emergency overnight program which is open to any homeless women who come to our door. A Step-Up provides 20 beds to women in our transitional housing program. SOAR, a safe haven for women with mental illness who have been chronically homeless, has capacity for 16 residents. Shelter, meals and other supportive services are offered to women in all three programs.

History:
Bethlehem Haven has been in existence since December of 1981 when the minister of the Smithfield United Church gave shelter to four homeless women. The shelter was housed in the basement of that church for the following 18 years providing shelter, meals and other services to any homeless women who came to their door. In April 2000, the Haven moved to new facilities Uptown. In addition to overnight emergency shelter, we now provide two additional residential programs for homeless women as well as working with other organizations in a collaborative partnership to reduce homelessness.
