The mission of Crisis Center North is to serve victims of domestic and relationship violence and to eliminate the community held beliefs and behaviors which perpetuate it.
Crisis Center North believes that no individual should be subjected to emotional, physical or verbal abuse.

Description:
Crisis Center North achieves this mission by:

  1. Offering immediate and transitional services to victims and their families free of charge.
  2. Increasing community awareness of the social costs of violent behavior.
  3. Developing professional expertise for responding to victims.
  4. Promoting strategies to combat violence in the home, the school and the neighborhood.
  5. Networking with other organizations in order to address the broader needs of victims and break the cycle of violence.

  6. History:
In 1978, thirteen women, representing various groups, joined forces with volunteers from the community and coordinated their effort, time and resources to establish the North Hills Women's Center. NHWC developed a specialized program of intervention, supportive, and educational services. In November of 1982, NHWC changed its name to Crisis Center North(CCN) and became incorporated. CCN has been a program member of the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence since its incorporation. The coalition is a statewide organization of 63 domestic violence programs which ensure that the member organizations maintain the highest standards and provide quality service to victims of domestic violence across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Crisis Center North (CCN) is a nonprofit counseling and educational resource center serving victims of domestic violence, their children, and teens involved in violent dating relationships in the northern communities of Allegheny County. The center believes through our expertise, strength and support as volunteers and staff, can aid victims toward empowerment and interrupt the cycle of abuse within the family.
