Girls Hope helps academically capable and motivated children-in-need to meet their full potential and become women for others by providing value centered, family-like homes, opportunities and education through college.
Description:
We welcome girls when they are about ten years old to our nurturing and healing environment. The girls are supervised by two carefully selected resident counselors supplemented by a volunteer resident counselor. They provide consistency, discipline, security and love. Nourishing meals, proper clothing, and a comfortable environment are provided as well as proper medical and dental care. Girls Hope helps the child focus on a strong academic education. The girls are enrolled in private schools where they can receive the special attention they require in an individually supervised program. Closely monitored study time and individual tutoring is provided in order to improve performance.
History:
Girls Hope is a sixteen year old non-profit, non-denominational program for young girls who need to be out of their homes due to poverty, parental illness, death, or neglect or inability to protect the child from harmful neighborhood conditions. Girls Hope opened its first house in Baden, Beaver County, in October, 1991 and a second house in Clinton, Allegheny County in October, 2001.
