Vintage's mission is to positively influence the experience of aging in our community. Our vision is to prolong independent living, to promote socialization, and to prevent the need for unnecessary nursing home or other institutional placement.

Description:
Vintage has two programs--the Adult Day Services Program and the Senior Center Program.

Adult Day Services focuses on nursing/health supports, personal care, recreation, and socialization. This program is targeted to adults age 60+ with physical and/or mental impairments.

The Senior Center program focuses on socialization, recreation, health/wellness, and information/referral. This program is targeted to adults age 60+ who are functionally independent but may be at risk due to factors such as chronic disease, living alone, low-income, and/or social isolation.

History:
Vintage began in 1973 through the joint efforts of several organizations which consolidated their activities in order to reach a larger, more diverse group of older adults. The East End Christian Church offered space for the programs and other support came from the Christian Church of Pennsylvania, a local Presbyterian Church, the Junior League of Pittsburgh, East End Cooperative Ministries and citizens of the community. In 1978 Vintage moved into its location at 401 N. Highland Avenue. The space and programs were greatly expanded. Vintage opened the first licensed Adult Day program in Western Pennsylvania in February 1981 in East Liberty. In July 1988, Vintage opened a second Adult Day Center in Downtown Pittsburgh located in the YWCA. In 1992, Vintage launched a capital campaign to provide new programs for more people in greatly improved facilities. In 1993 the Adult Day Center moved into the first floor of the United Way Building where it remained until June of 2003. At that time the Downtown facility was closed and the two centers merged into the greatly enlarged and newly renovated site in East Liberty. In 1994 Vintage purchased the Giant Eagle adjacent to their facility. In 1995 Vintage opened the beautifully renovated site to the public, offering a wide variety of activities, health and wellness education and information and referral services to seniors.
