Description: Primary Role: Participate as a member of the Goodwill Literacy Initiative tutoring team, to provide one to one or small group instruction in community areas. Help to create and follow a personal education plan to develop weekly tutoring sessions in reading, writing and math or English as a Second Language for adult learners. Link instruction to student's goals. Periodically review with students the relevance of their learning to their goals. Track student progress through review lessons, quizzes and writing assignments. Maintain accurate attendance records. After 50 hours of instruction, schedule student post testing with the tutor manager. Tutor Commitments: Tutors are expected to meet with their student(s) for 1.5 to 3 hours a week. Tutors are responsible for recording the amount of time spent tutoring and preparing for sessions. These forms are turned in to the tutor manager at the end of each month. A commitment to regular attendance is necessary from the tutor. Tutors should make the tutor manager aware when a student is having difficulty so that new approaches or materials may be explored.
Requirements: QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma, GED or higher level of education. Good reading and / or math ability. Willingness to help adult learners achieve their goals. Understanding of diverse cultures, patience and a sense of humor!
