CAP Services Inc. Head Start's Mission statement is:
"To help identify and encourage the strengths of children and their families and assist them in moving toward economic and emotional self-sufficiency."

Description:
Head Start is a federally funded preschool program locally designed and implemented, serving low income children and families and children with special needs and their families. The program provides the following comprehensive services:

  1. Early childhood education with developmentally appropriate curriculum
  2. Health and Nutrition
  3. Services for children with special needs
  4. Quality child care
  5. Parent Involvement opportunities
  6. Family Development services
  7. Community partnerships
  8. Mental Health Services

Head Start believes that parents are their children's first and most important teachers and have the longest lasting influence on their lives; therefore, parental involvement is the foundation of Head Start. When parents experience success, they learn to be confident partners with teachers and strong advocates for their families. When children experience success in a responsive, nurturing environment, they gain essential life-long skills and knowledge. Head Start respectfully identifies and encourages the individual strengths of children and their families and through education, community partnerships and family services assists families and children in moving toward and achieving their goals.

History:
Head Start began in 1965 as one of President Johnson's War on Poverty programs. It is one of the most successful and long lasting Federal Programs in existence. CAP Services Inc. Head Start began in 1966 and currently provides services to 368 children and families in Portage, Waupaca, Waushara and Marquette Counties.
