We believe that it is imperative that families who may not be financially able to provide for their children during the holidays are still able to give their children a good Christmas. We believe that it is the privilege of community members who are able to help others less fortunate than themselves. We are committed to helping all those concerned come together to make the holidays happy for everyone. We rely heavily on volunteers in order to make this project run smoothly every year.
Description:
Every year, Christmas is for Children takes in names of children from four different agencies in Central Wisconsin: Operation Bootstrap in Stevens Point, Holiday Basket in Stevens Point, Family Resource Center in Wisconsin Rapids, and Children's Services in Wausau. Our air personalities read the children's names and gift wishes over the air on each of our three stations. Listeners can call in to sponsor a child or, often, several children.
History:
Christmas is for Children is an annual project that was started 18 years ago by Rick Muzzy at Muzzy Broadcasting. Every year over 1000 children get sponsored. In the past, area businesses have been extremely generous in their time, space and donations. For instance, three area businesses serve as gift drop-off locations. Others give large quantities of stocking stuffers, buy gifts for children, or donate money to help with the cause. Our community volunteers have been invaluable in the past. They take names over the phone, sort gifts, and help ensure that everything happens that is supposed to.
