The mission of CAP Services is to bring about a permanent increase in the ability of low-income individuals to become economically and emotionally self-sufficient

Description:
The Family Crisis Center addresses the emergency need for immediate housing and safety experienced by domestic and sexual abuse victims. The Center also provides counseling and advocacy services to assist victims as they explore options, understand their situation and take steps toward positive changes.

The Crisis Center's youth services addresses the need for housing and crisis counseling experienced by youth when they have run away, been "pushed out," or need a "time out" from a potentially dangerous family situation. This can include escalating violence leading to an abusive situation, the youth running away or being forced to leave. The Crisis Center also provides walk-in counseling, telephone services and mediation to youth and parents in crisis.

The goals of the Center are to provide an alternative to living in a dangerous environment, to educate and to provide individuals with options and resources that assist them in living violence-free lives.

The Family Crisis Center provides an array of services including:

  • shelter for domestic and/or sexual abuse victims and their children and for runaway youth/youth-in-crisis;
  • crisis counseling
  • a 24-hour, toll-free crisis line;
  • walk-in counseling;
  • weekly support groups for adults and their children (ages 1 -12), who have experienced or are experiencing domestic violence in their home; and
  • advocacy services (to include assistance with restraining orders, applications for crime victim compensation benefits, assistance with and accompaniment to court proceedings and accessing of community services).

Center staff are also available for educational presentations and training for community, school, civic and agency organizations on domestic violence and youth issues.
