Last updated on April 24, 2008

Volunteer Guardians can make a positive difference in the life of an individual. A guardian is an adult appointed by the Court to protect, act, and make decisions for a person in need of a guardian. Anyone who is incapable to care for oneself due to developmental disabilities, infirmities of aging, or other like incapacities may be appointed a guardian.

Description:
The volunteer guardian's responsibilities are to make health and placement decisions on behalf of the ward. The needs of the ward are matched with the abilities of the guardian. The guardian is a friend and advocate to the ward. Guardians are appointed either Guardian of the Person and/or Guardian of the Estate. Decisions made by a guardian ensure that the ward is safe and has adequate shelter, food, medical care, and clothing.
