To engage in theatre arts pursuing activities and productions of high standards and artistic integrity that will enrich and ensure a better quality of life for the residents of southeastern Wisconsin by providing educational, cultural, avocational, recreational and entertainment opportunities for future generations.
Description:
The Racine Theatre Guild produces 8 main-stage productions and presents or produces 4 Racine Children's Theatre productions each season. This is accomplished by hundreds of volunteers under the guidance of a small professional staff. In addition, RTG presents Jean's Jazz Series (produced by Harbor Fest) and Comedy Tonight, acting classes for children and special events. The RTG facility is rented by other organizations and individuals for performances, programs and training sessions.
History:
The Racine Theatre Guild was begun in 1938. Over the years, performance spaces have included Douglas Park Community Center, the Woman's Club, the Main St. Theatre, the High St. Theatre and more. In 1976 the present facility at 2519 Northwestern Avenue was built. In 1999, RTG assumed management of the Racine Children's Theatre, founded in 1933. In 2004, following a three-year capital campaign, the RTG updated and redecorated the Northwestern Ave. building.
